๐Ÿ’— to ๐Ÿ’—- Letting Go and Letting Flow

We set goals. We make plans. We take actions. And we wait. Forever it seems like sometimes. We want to know EXACTLY how we're going to get that end result. We want the end result RIGHT NOW.

If I've learned anything over the last couple of years, especially the last several months, it's that you have to let go of knowing exactly how something is going to happen and you gotta detach from the outcome. I even have this reminder sitting on my desk.


โฌ…โฌ…โฌ…


Plans are helpful and recommended, I mean, it is part of what I do in my work with clients, after all. However, plans are guidelines-not strict rules that absolutely have to be followed. If you're so rigidly stuck to the plan you created you could end up missing out on even better outcomes than you would have dreamed could happen.


The process of letting go of exactly how the process will work and detaching from the outcome is a challenge. A super challenging challenge. A challenge squared one might say.


So I encourage you to follow your plan while also being cognizant of when things aren't working for you and make the necessary shifts. Some examples of where the plan may need to shift:

  • Following a diet that you absolutely hate so you keep "cheating" on it, falling off, and restarting. If you can't stick to it don't blame a lack of self-discipline and willpower. Change it to something that is more sustainable for you.

  • Working out 5 days a week, but you hardly get to see your family between that and work. Change it to 3 or 4 days. Do workouts at home. Maybe make working out a family thing!

  • Cutting out all sweets and switching over to fruits and veggies, but it only lasts a few days at a time. Stop trying to completely cut things out and instead focus on adding healthier things in. Perhaps swap one sweet for one fruit.

It's truly amazing how people will try to beat themselves into submission. They're a star trying to fit in a whole shaped like a triangle and they can't figure out why things just won't work.

You may have a certain idea in your head and it's not happening. Let yourself be okay with that and open yourself to other possibilities.


Stop trying to force things and let flow. It may not make sense right now. You may not see how this will get you to where you want to be, but you need to let go and trust.


This is where I am right now. I've tried to force long enough and I'm tired.
