If You're Feeling Behind or Like You're Not Where You Want to Be

Have you ever been so incredibly frustrated with yourself for not being where you want to be? Mentally beating yourself up for being such a shmuck. Wasting time, energy, money, effort...
Maybe you've been trying to lose 50 pounds but just keep gaining it all back.
Maybe you're on medication for high blood pressure and high cholesterol when you swore to yourself you'd never let that happen.
Maybe you're taking ibuprofen several times a week because there's always something hurting and you're just so sick of feeling weak and in pain.
It could even be a job that you know you should have left years ago. Or a relationship.
This applies to a plethora of things really.
You find yourself so far in the wrong direction that even trying to turn around and go the other way seems impossible. Or you feel so unsure of how to change anything that you stay stuck in your own self-defeating patterns and thought processes.

Thoughts going across your mind like...
"What's the point? I'm so far gone anyway."
"How could I let myself get here?"
"I feel so stuck. I'll never get past this."
Maybe you have a whole list of reasons why to rationalize it all in your head:
"I just haven't had time to deal with this. I have so many things going on!"
"Other people need me and that's more important."
"I'm too busy. I'll get around to fixing this when I have more free time."
I get it. I've run into this in my life. I've made several crap decisions that just kept taking me away from what I actually wanted. Decisions based on fear, desperation, avoidance, and lack of self-trust. Then I'd beat myself up because that's money lost. Time lost. And I'd be stuck right where I was- but maybe in a new way. HA! However...
We have to remember we have a choice in all of this. We can choose any time we want to head in a different direction.
Even if we feel like we're super behind or wonder if it's even worth it.
My words to you, as they are to myself, you're not behind and yes, it is worth it.
You may wonder how you could possibly NOT be behind so let me paint a picture for you. Everything we experience makes us who we are. We learn as we go- as long as we take time for self-reflection and applying what we learn. We have to go through things in order to become who we need to be to have the things that we want.
I realized recently I'm not fully being who I need to be in order to have the things that I want. So go f*cking figure I don't have them. L O L.
In other words, you're right where you need to be to get the lessons necessary for your growth.
And you'll keep going in the "wrong direction" until you wake up to yourself, learn, and choose another direction by applying the lessons. That may include getting out of your comfort zone, doing things you don't want to, doing things that feel really challenging at first, or asking for help. It's all a part of the process.
As to the other part of it- yes, it is worth it- anything for your good, your health, your wellness is WORTH IT. It's irrelevant how much time has passed. It's going to keep passing anyway. Do you want it to keep flying by feeling how you are? Getting what you are in life? Or do you want to start taking your life back and making it what you want RIGHT NOW?
I found that, for me, the breakthrough is in the action. Which isn't surprising if you think about it. What are you doing when you feel stuck and defeated? Not moving. Stuck in your head. Overthinking. Ruminating. Doing busy work that gets you nowhere. Distracting yourself with social media. Taking care of everyone else's needs.
MOVE. Just take a small step towards whatever it is that you actually want.
I don't give a rat's furry butt if it seems inconsequential. You got where you are now BECAUSE OF THE TINY LITTLE "INCONSEQUENTIAL" THINGS.
Because little things add up!
Little things also include you choosing to NOT make moves, btw. Just something to keep in mind.
Examples of how this might look:
Trying to lose weight or get off of medications: Take a 10 minute walk after dinner today. Meet a friend at the park for a hike. Swap a pop for a bottle of water in your lunch.
Trying to reduce pain: Stress builds up in the body and can lead to a lot of aches and pains. One of the best things you can do for that is move your body- walking, gentle stretching, mobility- there are a TON of YouTube exercise videos. If you have internet you have access. Add some blueberries to your breakfast to work towards eating healthier. Because if you eat like a trashcan you're gonna feel like a trashcan.
Keep in mind that it took you a good while to get to where are now, right? Just start off with accepting that it's also probably going to take you a good while to get to where you want to be. AND THAT'S OKAY.
Because there's a whole lot more "becoming" that you have to do in order to achieve what you want.
Know that you aren't alone. I'm right there with you on my own path of achieving what I want.
If you're feeling behind or like you're not where you want to be with your health and fitness, then you're in the right spot!
Getting more fit, reducing pain, and kicking anxiety and stress is what we do around here! I've had a lot of practice with it- a lot of BECOMING 😉- so if it's something you need help with send me an email at janna@jl-wellness.com.
