I was listening to one of those motivational speech videos on YouTube the other day and the speaker mentioned how a friend had asked him what his perfect day would look like. The speaker said he didn't know how to answer it because he’d not ever thought about it. He continued on to make the point that it can’t happen if he doesn’t even know what it would be. So, therefore, he was having a lot of less than ideal days. You can listen to that speech and others here.
That statement resonated with me because I'm really good at knowing what I don’t want. I bet a lot of you are nodding your heads in agreement with that. I also bet that, when someone asks what you do want you either have no idea or you're indecisive AF (*sheepishly raises hand* ok that's me, too). While there is clarity in the contrast we have to actually focus more on what we DO want if we want to actually get it. When we focus so much on what we DON'T want that's all we see.
Once you do know what you want you can start living your life on purpose to achieve that desired outcome.
All that being said, if you're going about your days feeling like they're subpar and constantly wanting something better, but you aren't real clear on what "better" even is, then the journal prompts I have below could help you gain that clarity. Self-reflection is key to knowing ourselves. Knowing ourselves is key to getting what we want. So let's do this.
Set aside at least 30 minutes to do a deep dive into yourself. Set the space- chill music, tea, candle, cozy blanket- whatever works for you. Let's get clearer on how you can live your life on purpose with these journal prompts.
A few things to note:
I think it’s important to consider your real life, typical days. Not “my ideal day would be to be on vacation in the Bahamas forever!” Let’s put a little more thought into it than that. Use present tense, be descriptive and use your 5 senses- what do you see, feel, hear, smell, and taste? For example:
I wake up in my soft, warm bed and look out my window to see the sun rising over the pond in my back yard. I feel my dog jump up on the bed for his morning cuddles and give him squeezes before getting up feeling well-rested and energized. I make coffee then sit out on my back porch cuddled up in a soft blanket feeling the crisp air and seeing the leaves are just starting to change to brilliant reds and oranges. As I sip my coffee I relish the subtle smell and flavor of pumpkin spice fully sinking into my identity as a basic bish.

Just imagine sippin some pumpkin spice right here 😍
LOL
You get my point, though. Descriptive. Details. It’s important that you keep an open mind as you do this. In my experience, sometimes when I try to think big and expansive there will be negative thoughts (i.e. limiting beliefs) that slip in and try to make things seem silly or impossible. When you notice that happen chuck them to the side. Approach it with the mindset of “how can I make this happen” rather than shutting it down right off the bat with “I can’t”. Anything is possible. Just let it flow out of you. It's time to live with purpose! Use these journal prompts to gain self-awareness and create your best day:
